The Memphis Section Board welcomes you to our section! We strive to create events that are fun for everyone; to run a section that is financially sound and supports all members; and ensure that we appeal to those who own Mercedes and those who just love the marque. We always welcome feedback and suggestions, so email any of us!

I became a bona fide Mercedes-Benz enthusiast on an MBCA tour in Stuttgart, Germany several years ago. The thrill of legally driving a M-B sedan at 147 mph (German Autobahn) coupled with my respect for an auto manufacturer who studied and designed passenger safety features long before the Corvair, propelled me into the Mercedes-Benz enthusiast realm. My son and daughter each drive a C-class. But our favorite car is our 1966 250SE Cabriolet. She’s a gem.

Rich Rankin

Vice President

My first experience with Mercedes cars was when I was 14. My Dad had just purchased a 1960 190d. It was old and unusual, but also elegant and obviously well built! I finally purchased my own Mercedes…a 1967 230sl. It was also old, unusual, elegant and well built! Now, I am hooked for life! My ownership experience quickly brought me to the Memphis Mercedes Club where I found a wonderful group of like minded people. I have served as both President and Vice President of this section.

I have been a member of the Memphis section for 10 years. I bought my 1960 190b sedan, generally called a “Ponton”, while living in Beirut, Lebanon in 1974 where it had been imported from Switzerland for sale as a taxi. The car’s been to Aqaba and Petra, Damascus and Aleppo, and from Greece to Holland while my wife and I have owned it. The great diversity of M-B products and engineering quality has long been an attraction.

We joined the section in 2003. I have held two offices. I was elected Secretary from Apr. 2011-2014, then elected President Apr. 2014-2018. We originally joined for the social activities. Since becoming president, I have wanted to increase membership, stay financially sound, and increase our activities based on what the membership wants to do.

I became a member of MBCA 25 years ago for technical info and support after purchasing my first 300E.  I've since owned 9 Mercedes and am particularly fond of the "E" series cars. As a car collector my entire adult life, I've enjoyed membership in several car clubs but have found the MBCA to be the most active, supportive and inclusive of the clubs, and I would recommend MBCA for those who want to learn more about their cars and enjoy fellowship with others who have the same passion for this grand marquee.

The first Mercedes Benz I drove was my mom’s 1959 W111 220S when I was in college in the early 1960s. What a fine machine. In 1972 I bought a 1963 W113 230SL, which I still have. Then a 230 sedan when I came back from being stationed in Thailand in 1975. And a 1982 W123 300TD when I moved to Germantown in 1985. Since retiring in 2014, I have acquired a 2009 W211 E350, a 2008 W164 ML350, a 2009 W209 CLK350 Cabriolet, and a 2009 R171 SLK350. I really like to drive and work on MBs and socialize with other MB owners and enthusiasts.

Social Media

My husband and I were members of the Cincinnati section for 25 years before moving down south in 2016. Dave and I were on the Cincinnati Board for a many years, plus I served as Editor, Secretary and President. I look forward to helping this section grow and thrive through greater diversity and media presence.

Erik & Lordita Nowacki

Event Coordinators

Erik has fond memories of Mercedes from his youth.  His dad purchased a 220D, that frequently needed to be push started when the temperature fell below 40 degrees...More recently, he has enjoyed fiddling with a W108 and a complete basket case W111 coupe.  The current daily driver fleet consists of a W211 E63 AMG wagon for Erik and an R129 SL500 for Lordita.  We both enjoy the friendships and fun events organized by the club.
